These Bonds Are Strong

I remember when your eyes were blue,

a color I simply never expected from you,

and I recall the sound of your crying at night,

so little but full of so much fight,

though I’d hold you you’d cry all night long,

Don’t worry, baby, these bonds are strong.

Stronger even than what I thought,

more precious than anything that could be bought,

one half memory, one half hope,

so powerful it took me some time to cope,

as everlasting as a classic song,

Don’t worry, baby, these bonds are strong.

Each day I feel them stretch a little more,

and the day will come where you’ll be living one foot out the door,

a feisty spirit to take on the world,

once my baby, once my little girl,

wanting to grow and go isn’t wrong,

Don’t worry, baby, these bonds are strong.

So for now I’ll hold you tight,

cuddle you close, tell you it’ll be alright,

and try to pretend this time’s not flying past,

taking a thousand pictures to make the moments last,

when you’re grown, now and then let me tag along,

Don’t worry, baby, these bonds are strong.
